Day 246: An early Ekka visit

Ekka tradition
Day 246 (9 Aug) Friday and off to the Ekka, part 1. But not before a teleconference at 12.30. Just as it is my turn to speak, the Council decides to start jackhammering out the front where they are replacing the footpath. Nowhere in the house is quiet enough to speak on the phone.

Breakfast (reflections),
at 6.12am
They stop, just as my turn finishes. The rest of the day is taken up with marking and reading. Naturally the news of the past few days has been a bit distracting so come the afternoon, I propose a Friday night visit to the Ekka, two days earlier than the usual plan of Sunday after the USC Open Day duties.

The sun is starting to rise a bit earlier which is nice, as this pic shows. Breakfast prep was at the usual time but I've taken a slightly different angle.
Sunrise, just before 6.12am

It was a good decision to head to the Ekka...I went by train for the first time in about 30 years...there is a special showground stop used only at this time of year and we didn't hold off on any of the Ekka specials: straight into the dagwood dogs, the showground activities and, of course the now somewhat controversial all-new strawberry sundae.
Arts and crafts, at 6.12pm

We spent a bit of time in the fine arts pavilion which is full of the usual wonderful art and crafts. The pics I entered didn't make it in this year, but there is always next year, to have another go.

We decide, that for my friend's research purposes, we must do it all again on Sunday...
